Venezuela Viva las pinturas
In August 2005 I went along to see a show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival called Venezuela Viva. A wonderfully colourful stage production of energetic dance and music originating from Venezuela.
A cast of the most beautiful and talented dancers tell an intriguing story of the evolution of modern Venezuela through the art of dance. The production is a kaleidoscope of colour, music and expression. A sensual combination of Arab dance, Joropo, Classical flamenco and Caribbean salsa bursting with tropical energy and Flamenco passion.
During the intermission I jotted down visual notes in my pocket book as my mind filled with new painting ideas.
Later I watched the show again, this time making more detailed notes, and from these initial sketches I began to put together concepts for a new collection of work.
One of the first paintings produced was used by the production company Universal Arts and was subsequently used to illustrate publicity material for future performances. November 2006 I met up with Venezuela Viva again in The Hague, this time to gather notes for a commission by one of the dancers and attain new material for future work.
During 2007 paintings and charcoal sketches have been selling well and I am currently searching for a gallery to exhibit a collection of my most recent works entitled; 'Venezuela Viva las pinturas'.
